Welcome to my new website! has been around for a while, but I tossed my old WYSIWYG software to the wind and decided to give Blogger design a try.

Why make the change to Blogger?

I am often asked by people interested in a career in freelancing how they can start. Not many people want to pay someone else to design a website for them, nor do they want to buy their own software and take time to learn it. That's where Blogger came in for me. I know, there are are a lot of Wordpress fans out there. I'm not one of them. Blogger is idiot-proof and that's what I look for in a webpage design program. The software program I had been using, WebStudio, was easy and fun, but it became too challenging for me to upload files through my web host. Blogger, however is easy.

Why have a webpage at all?

If you want to be a freelance writer, you must have a webpage. No ifs, ands, or buts. Gone are the days of copying articles to email a portfolio to a potential client. They want to check out your skills right away. That's why a webpage is so important.

It doesn't have to be a paid, hosted account like this one. I buy my domain through GoDaddy, then designed and uploaded my site through Blogger. You could skip the domain purchase all together and just host a free blog on Blogger (or Wordpress). In my opinion, having the domain gives my freelance business a more professional appearance (and is a business expense when it comes tax-time).

What you'll find here

If you're interested in a career as a freelance writer, I'll help you work toward that with helpful articles and tips. Don't quit your day job. I repeat - DON'T QUIT YOUR DAY JOB. Freelance writing takes some time to build, just like any business. With some dedication, you can turn your desire to freelance into some extra income, then maybe even replace your regular job.
